The man behind the counter smiled as he shook his customer’s hand.

They talked for a few minutes about different services the new store offered – printing, copying, office supplies – and before the two said their goodbyes, the customer let him know one last thing.

“I’m glad you guys are here,” he said.

That’s exactly what Mitchell Barron wanted to hear. He’s a local guy, a Shaker Heights native having lived in Beachwood for the last 25 years. When he learned there was a vacant space in the Pavilion Shopping Center off Chagrin Boulevard, he didn’t hesitate to move his PostNet store from Hudson closer to home.

“I think the location is great,” Barron said. “This is where I live. It has a great mix of businesses and residences, a great school system and great services.”

PostNet is a printing, copying and shipping center, similar to FedEx Office and UPS stores, which are its direct competitors. The company has stores all over the country and each shop is locally owned.

Barron, 53, opened the Hudson PostNet store six years ago and moved into the current location last month. He said he not only likes the much shorter commute to work, but also being able to serve his neighborhood.

“I work this store, and I get customer service and care,” he said. “Our service is very important.”

Barron said he learned about the business world while working for his father, who owned coin-operated laundromats in eight states. When his family sold the business, Barron decided to go into business for himself, and opened the PostNet store after doing a lot of research.

His store has five copy machines, including one that produces blueprints, posters, signs, banners and a wide format machine that laminates product and secures it to foam. The store also has private mailboxes that can be accessed 24/7, document shredding, passport photos, business cards and shipping with FedEx, UPS, United States Postal Service and DHL.

The printing and copying service is available for individual customers as well as for other businesses, which means everything from a dozen resumes to 10,000 copies of a portfolio is doable.

Len Frank, a Beachwood resident, was getting some copies made over the weekend and said it was nice to have the PostNet store so close to home.

“It’s very convenient,” said the Beachwood resident. “Everything worked just fine and I was able to get what I needed.”

PostNet, 24331 Chagrin Blvd., is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information visit the store’s website at www.postnet.com/oh122.
